| Vanilla
is native to the Americas and is frequently encountered growing
in its natural
state high in the canopy of trees in the tropical rainforest. The
indigenous people of Mexico have cultivated vanilla since before
colonial times and continue to do so using the only sustainable
production system known to date. Vanilla cultivation in other parts
of the world is characterized as “boom and bust” with
shifting cultivation the main factor allowing continued production.
Rainforest Vanilla is produced in the tradition of Mexican heritage
with one major difference: implementing fair trade practices and
innovative planting technologies to insure a sustainable livelihood
in growing regions. |
